For years the subject of rumors, GMC has finally introduced its first model designated an AT4, short for All-Terrain 4-wheel drive. It features a suspension lifted by two inches and fitted with Rancho monotube shocks, and 18-inch wheels with knobby all-terrain tires.
The engine lineup is the same as on regular 2019 Sierratrucks and includes updated versions of the 5.3-liter (standard) and 6.2-liter V8 gasoline engines as well as an all-new Duramax 3.0-liter inline-six turbo-diesel engine.
Based on the new 2019 Chevrolet Silverado, the GMC Sierra (including the AT4 model) looks to stand out from its corporate cousin in terms luxury touches, along with some subtle exterior details. The regular Sierra's C-shaped LED lights are kept, and then black chrome appears on the LED fog lamp bezels and fender trim. Dark tinted and textured aluminum trim can be found on the steering wheel, center stack, and sill plates.
GMC will also sell a line of GearOn accessory rails that fit within a minimal amount of space to make loading and adjusting everything from kayaks to bicycles easier.
Overall we're pretty excited about the 2019 GMC Sierra AT4. The off-road inclinometer shows the fore-and-aft tilt, front tire angle and left-and-right tilt. The ProGrade Trailering System and related smartphone app also will be optional, as will 360-degree camera function displayed on the multimedia screen. Fiat Chrysler Automobiles offers its Ram 1500-3500 pickup trucks in a variety of special editions, including the 2019 Ram 1500 Kentucky Derby Edition that will debut in NY.
Like the Sierra SLT and Denali models, which GM unveiled this month in Detroit, the AT4 features a larger, more durable cargo box and six-way MultiPro tailgate. Eighteen-inch wheels with all-terrain tires are standard. Red accents are added to the emblems and front tow hooks. In standard form, an enhanced version of General Motors' tried-and-true 5.3-liter V8 connected to an 8-speed automatic transmission moves things along. All engines will be paired to a 10-speed automatic. For improved economy, the gasoline units feature stop/start technology and Dynamic Fuel Management cylinder shut-off tech.
The GMC Sierra AT4 goes on sale this fall. From the all-new compact SUV Terrain to the Sierra HD, our trucks and crossovers deliver GMC's signature combination of intuitive technologies and premium execution, with the popular Denali sub-brand representing the pinnacle of GMC design, performance and amenities.
