A faster processor and better connectivity options are available on the new model. With the Pi now instrumental to computer science education and IoT development, the Pi 3 Model B+ improvements serve to further consolidate the device's advantages.

The Raspberry Pi Foundation has added a new device to its growing suite of microcomputers today with the launch of the Raspberry Pi 3 Model B+. Now, the makers of Raspberry Pi have come up with an updated model addressing the limitations of the previous versions.

While it's been significantly improved compared to its predecessor that was launched some two years ago, the Pi 3 Model B+ is an exact copy of the Pi 3 Model B and the Pi 2. The wireless circuitry is now housed underneath a metal shield, embossed with a Raspberry Pi logo.

The B+ does use more power than previous boards, but thanks to the improved power integrity of the Broadcom chip, it won't get throttled very often.

Five dead in NY river helicopter crash
Five people were killed Sunday when a private helicopter crashed into the East River in New York City after an engine failure. Eric Adams , from western Pennsylvania, was some of the last people to see the victims of the doomed helicopter flight alive.

"Alongside a 200MHz increase in peak CPU clock frequency, we have roughly three times the wired and wireless network throughput, and the ability to sustain high performance for much longer periods", the organization said in a statement touting the device's new features. This model includes several useful improvements over the old Model B, but it keeps the same $35 price point. "I think what we've ended up with is something which is a really good B+, a bit too good for a B+, but that would be not really anywhere near enough for a Raspberry Pi 4". The entire board is now certified as a radio module under FCC rules, which will reduce the cost of conformance testing Raspberry Pi-based products. According to Raspberry Pi, it's sold more than 9 million Raspberry Pi 3 units and a total of 19 million Raspberry Pis in total.

Furthermore, the B+ features Power-over-Ethernet support (with separate PoE HAT), as well as PXE network and USB mass-storage booting improvements.

In honor of Pi Day, many stores are offering discounts on Raspberry Pi products, so be sure to look around.
