An IDF spokesman confirmed the attack and said that the vehicle ramming was deliberate.

"The announcement of the tunnel discovery is a new attempt at misdirection and an attempt to sell an illusion of power and fake victories to the Israeli public and the worldwide community".

Israel "bears all the consequences of the escalation", said Hamas spokesman Fawzy Barhoum.

Palestinian terror groups responded with glee to the attack.

The Israeli military destroyed two Hamas terror tunnels in Gaza.

The official twitter account for the IOF Spokesperson tweeted on Sunday that 'the attempt to renew the terror tunnel shows that Hamas finds it hard to accept the collapse of the tunnel project and continues to waste the funds desperately needed for the residents of the Gaza Strip.

Israel's Defence Minister Avigdor Lieberman said on Twitter: "We will act to secure the death penalty for the terrorist, for the demolition of his home and for the punishment of anyone who collaborated".

He urged the worldwide community "to realize that the assistance funds to Gaza are being buried underground".

The comment came as donor countries and others have worked to raise money for the beleaguered Strip, which United Nations officials say is facing a crippling shortage of clean water among other ills.

A Palestinian stabbed and fatally wounded an Israeli security guard in Jerusalem's Old City on Sunday before being shot dead by a police officer, Israeli authorities said. "It (the tunnel) was filled with a certain material, with a certain compound", Conricus said.

The statement claims that operations to locate and dismantle tunnelling operations from within the Gaza Strip had been intensified in the last six months. Islamic Jihad called for more attacks like Kabhha's. Hamas claimed that the tunnel had been built for the objective of smuggling goods into Gaza. It had been dug inside the Hamas-ruled enclave several hundred meters away from Israel's border fence.

First responders treated the victim, who was later taken to the hospital in critical condition.

The number of Palestinian prisoners and detainees in Israeli jails, as of February 28, 2018, was 6,500, prisoners rights group Addameer reported.

Two explosive devices were detonated Thursday along the border, provoking Israeli attacks on Hamas positions.

The WAFA Palestinian News Agency said Shweiki was given 30 days to implement the decision to demolish the property under the pretext of building without permission.
