PS4 update 5.50 is a 460MB download, which is a bit bigger than usual but nothing too insane.

Sony has just dropped a new update for PS4 consoles, bringing an array of new features to the entertainment device. The update is 459MB. This was set up to be one of PlayStation 4's big exclusives for 2018, but considering the lack of updates we had been getting it really isn't that surprising that a delay is happening. This is a feature aimed at parents looking to keep young kids' play time to a reasonable level.

The parental controls allow parents to restrict certain hours in the day, stopping children playing very late at night, for instance, along with allowing them to monitor how long games have been played for. The children who are playing on the console are warned when their play session is nearly over, allowing them to find a save point or safe logout point before running out of time.

If you have a bunch of games/demos that you know you probably won't play again, you can hide them under the "Purchased" tab.

The new parental control feature earned praise from Chris Byrne, content director at review site TTPM.com, which stands for toys, tots, pets and more.

Supersampling allows 1080p TV owners to benefit from PS4 Pro resolution enhancements in the games that support it.

The Quick Menu has received a slight modification in the 5.50 update as well.

If you ever want to quickly access specific friends in your custom list, you'll be able to do so via the pulldown menu under the Friends tab in Quick Menu.

There are also a number of smaller additions in the 5.50 update.
