Information and Broadcasting minister Smriti Irani said in a tweet, "Truth reigns supreme with SC judgement and political ploy to malign judiciary & @AmitShah ji fails". But Loya's son had on January 14 said in Mumbai that his father had died of natural causes.

A three-judge bench of Chief Justice Dipak Misra and Justices AM Khanwilkar and DY Chandrachud said, "We have come to the conclusion that there is absolutely no merit in the writ petitions". "There is no basis whatsoever to make any imputation against the four officers of the state judiciary". Joint Commissioner of Police, Shivaji Bodhke said, "The Nagpur police have done the investigation in professional manner".

Patra also described the public interest litigations that sought the independent investigation as "political interest litigations".

He asked if the statements of some judges made in an administrative enquiry before a police officer could be the sole yardstick for arriving a conclusion.

The court had agreed to hear the pleas even as the Bombay High Court was already looking into the issue.

"Serious attacks have been made on the credibility of two judges of the Bombay High Court". "Business rivalries and political rivalries should be settled outside", the top court said.

"The circumstances of Justice Loya's death raised several questions".

Property sales, however, continued to slow amid a flurry of government measures to get soaring home prices under control. However, a few days later, Washington said that tariffs could affect more Chinese products - worth $100 billion.

"If we can not protect one of our own, we have no reason to exist", he had told the court.

"It gives a sense of anguish that the proceedings were converted to scandalise the judiciary bordering on contempt", the court said. "The Congress, the Communists and some media houses who were behind the whole campaign have been "totally exposed" in the matter after the Supreme Court upheld the investigation report of Maharashtra government", Fadnavis said.

"A fresh probe will look at statements of deceased judge's colleagues with suspicion and pit one against the other", Rohatgi had argued.

The bench said that in their practice before this court, counsel are "expected to assist the court with a sense of objectivity in aid of justice". The bench lent credence to the statements of four judges - Shrikant Kulkarni, SM Modak, Vijay C Barde and RR Rathi - who were with Loya when he died in Nagpur.

Judge Loya, who was hearing the Sohrabuddin Sheikh encounter case in which BJP President Amit Shah was an accused, died of a heart attack in 2014. It clearly means that the case was fought as a political battle against our party president Amit Shah. To a query about questions raised by the Congress following the order, he said some people accept the court's verdict only when it suits them but the decision of the Supreme Court is final.
