BMW recalls 300000 cars in the United Kingdom over stalling issue

The affected BMW models include the 1 Series, 3 Series, X1 and the Z4 that were made between March 2007 and August 2011.

BMW initially launched a recall for 36,410 cars but it has now chose to expand it significantly.

It has not advised motorists to stop driving their vehicles.

"We now recognise that there may have been some cases of similar power-supply issues in vehicles not covered by the original recall", BMW said. To make matters worse, the tail lamps of the auto had failed and that led to an accident when the driver of another vehicle lost control in an attempt to avoid hitting the stalled BMW.

Narayan Gurung, 66, was travelling with his wife on Christmas Day in 2016 when their Ford Fiesta crashed into a tree.

Affected owners will be sent a letter within the next three weeks advising them how to have their cars rectified.

BMW announced a massive recall this week for over 300,000 of its diesel powered cars sold in the UK.

A BMW spokesperson told The Irish Times that "a technical action was released in November 2016 which was subsequently turned into recall in 2017".
