Police Chief Steven Howell Jr. said several shots were fired near the auditorium, and Dallas rushed to the area to confront the gunman.

According to Sauk Valley, Milby was a senior at Dixon High School but was recently expelled, and thus not graduating with the rest of his class.

"With shots ringing out through the hallways of the school, he charged toward the suspect and confronted him head on", Dixon Police Chief Steve Howell told WMAQ-TV. Dallas chased him when he ran outside, trying to shoot a police officer.

The officer was not injured, nor was anyone else, officials say.

No students or staff were injured during the incident.

The alleged gunman suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was placed under arrest. People were laughing at first and then pandemonium broke out. "I'm just glad he's OK", he said.

A senior cleric and the head of Iran's revolutionary guard have warned against trusting foreign countries. Exports of German goods to Iran rose by around 400 million euros to 3 billion euros.

Howell said that students and staff at the school appeared to have acted coolly under stress during the incident. It is unclear whether the incident took place inside the school or outside the building.

The woman said her son was bullied and ostracized at school, and was beaten up in October.

The woman said she didn't know where her son got a gun and that she does not keep guns in her home. Thank god they didn't kill him, that's a blessing.

A police resource officer is being credited with stopping a potential school shooting in IL. So, I can say for the Dixon Police Department, very good job protecting the kids. When officers went inside the high school, they said they saw students and teachers barricaded in their classrooms as they should have been. He said he thinks authorities may be releasing the name and age of the person in custody during the media event.

A news conference is expected to be held at Noon EST.

The Dixon community is hailing the actions of a police officer as heroic after he shoots an armed gunman who opened fire at the school's gymnasium on Wednesday morning.
