A family from Arizona unknowingly filmed an astonishing video of their dog saving his best friend when he accidentally fell into a pool and couldn't get out.

Becerra posted a video to Facebook which shows her daughter's dog, named Remus, leaping into the pool to save Smokey from drowning.

Video shows Smokey, who is floundering in the water trying to swim to the edge of the pool.

Finally, Remus jumps in himself, swims under his friend, and uses his own body to push Smokey back onto dry land.

She praised "hero" canine Remus, saying although he could also be "a loopy pup he is received a coronary heart of gold".

"So Remus and Smokey got a little rambunctious".

Laurie Becerra wrote that her husband had stepped into the house for a short time and that Smokey went through a fence that was intented to keep him away from the water.

The video has since been viewed more than 235,000 times on Facebook, making it to local news sites and then cracking into a global audience after being features by mastheads such as Fox News. "He said that the dog is a real certified lifeguard".

"Jay saw Smokey all wet and wanted to see what happened".
