The woman whose son recorded the video said that after they had killed the raccoons the students killed an opossum "just for sport".

The agri-science teacher, whose name has not been released, is on paid administrative leave from Forest High School while the district investigates.

Christian said he couldn't comment further on the incident, only saying that Brewton was placed on leave as part of standard protocol, and that school officials did not have issues with Brewton in the past 34 years he has worked on and off for the district. "It's bad. It still does make me sick to my stomach", said the student's mother, who wanted to remain anonymous.

"Some students were left with nightmares after the sixth-period agricultural science class", a student told Channel 9.

"It made me sick", the mother told the station. It made me sick to my stomach.

'It's awful. It still does make me sick to my stomach'.

Brewton allegedly instructed the students not to film the suffering animals or they would be given detention. "That one probably didn't do anything". The teacher then caught raccoons in cages, "took the cages, filled up large trash cans full of water, and had the children drown the raccoons in the cages inside the water, inside the trash cans", she said.

Regardless of whether the animals killed the chickens raised by the class, Brewton had no business killing them, she said.

The incident is alleged to have happened at the same high school where a student was left wounded in a shooting last month. "They should have trapped the animal and had somebody take them and relocate the animals".

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Fee launched an investigation after dad and mom notified the company, in line with FOX51.

Brewton is an adviser of the school's Future Farmers of America club.

"While law enforcement tells us the teacher did not do anything illegal, his actions before students are certainly questionable", a spokesperson said.
