Their objective? To "stamp out hunger".

In 2017, Postal Service carriers collected over 75 million pounds of food nationally, feeding an estimated 30 million people.

All you have to do is set a bag of non-perishable items next to your mailbox. "We've been doing this for many years".

Last year 20 thousand pounds was collected and this year the Wiregrass Food Bank is trying to exceed that amount. Broken down, that is one pound per capita.

Southern California also accounted for two other areas in the Top 10 past year.

Burns said this allows LA Cares to feed 80 families per month or about 200 individuals.

But the food drive does not accept frozen food, homemade food or home-canned items, nor items that have expired or are in glass containers.

Canned meats (tuna, chicken, salmon).

Any donation is welcome.

Of course, the most important thing is to give back to community members in need, but there are also bragging rights on the line with this collection campaign.

"We still have 42 million Americans, 1 in 6, who now don't know where they are getting their next meal". The Chester donations are given to the Chester County Ministerial Association's Community Food Pantry at Purity Presbyterian Church, to the Turning Point and other assistance agencies with food pantries.

He said the Cub Scouts "get to interact with the public. Put it out Friday", said retired Lebanon city letter carrier Millie Heston. Initially the organizations did their own drives but made a decision to join forces.

Area residents will receive plastic donation bags in their mail.
