The opera singer - who won America's Got Talent in 2008 - has died from heart failure, according to a Monday report from TMZ.

He won the NBC TV show and its one million dollar prize in 2008.

One year following Boyd's AGT win - where he stunned audiences with performances of "Somewhere" from West Side Story and "Nessun Dorma" - Boyd released an album titled My American Dream, which debuted at number three on the Top Classical Albums chart.

Boyd, who appeared in season 3 of the USA talent competition, passed away in Sikeston, Missouri home.

Boyd has passed away at the age of 42.

Boyd had been slowly recovering after a crash previous year that left him and his mother badly hurt. "[Recovery is] a very slow progress".

"You never know what's going to happen next. It's been hard, because you can't get up on stage right now, you can't perform for the audiences and you can't really do too much recording or traveling".

He went on: "Any time you're in a moment of struggle, God has a way of coming in and uplifting you".

"Just be grateful that you survived", he continued.

He was also very involved in politics and campaigned for a Missouri District 149 House Seat in 2014. The two were rushed to hospital at the time, with TMZ claiming that both Neal and his mother had been "slowly recovering" since then.
