It is reported that former EastEnders star Leslie Grantham is critically ill in hospital in the UK.

The newspaper reported that Grantham - who played "Dirty" Den Watts in the BBC soap - had returned to the United Kingdom from Bulgaria to receive medical attention.

Doctors are now said to be treating him, and close friends from the industry have been visiting his bedside, according to The Sun.

Grantham moved to Bulgaria after filming TV series The English Neighbour there in 2010.

In 1986, he notably helped EastEnders draw a staggering 30 million viewers when fans tuned in to watch him hand over divorce papers to Angie on Christmas Day.

Grantham shot to fame while playing Watts in EastEnders, originally from 1985 to 1989.

He said people who work hard behind the scene are "never benefitted" and the fruits of their toil are enjoyed by others. This will be Gandhi's first public engagement in Mumbai after taking over as Congress President in December 2017.

The father-of-three is best known for his role as villainous landlord of the Queen Vic Den Watts, whose adulterous and violent ways had fans of the show hooked from the moment he appeared on screen in the first ever episode. However Den was killed off again two years later, this time for good, when wife Chrissie Watts bludgeoned him over the head with an iron doorstop.

Grantham enlisted in the British Army in 1965, being sent to West Germany with the Royal Fusiliers.

In 1967, Grantham was convicted of murder and sentenced to life imprisonment.

In 2004, Grantham was exposed by a Sunday newspaper after he took part in webcam chats while masturbating and sucking his finger while in his dressing room.

Grantham said he was so devastated after the scandal that he attempted suicide.

In 2015, Leslie revealed he had his sights set on a role in Coronation Street.
