In March, Trump surprised the world by accepting an invitation from Kim to meet in person.

Less than two days before his tête-a-tête with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, the president who initially welcomed the idea that his efforts might net him a Nobel Prize was downplaying the possibility that Tuesday's meeting would lead to any major breakthroughs.

According to FlightRadar24, a website that tracks the flights of various aircraft, thousands of people followed the progress of Kim Jong-un's plane.

"We have a chance to achieve a truly wonderful result for North Korea and the World", Trump tweeted from Air Force One en route to Singapore, predicting that counterpart Kim Jong Un "will work very hard to do something that has rarely been done before".

"I think we should take some optimism from that reporting", the official said.

North Koreans woke up to news on Monday that their leader Kim Jong Un had arrived in Singapore for a landmark summit with US President Donald Trump. "We appreciate your hospitality and professionalism and friendship".

The US delegation joining Trump at the expanded bilateral meeting will include Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, White House chief of staff John Kelly and national security adviser John Bolton.

Balakrishnan, who received Kim, the Chairman of North Korea's State Affairs Commission, on Sunday at Changi Airport, said the summit comes after 70 years of suspicion, war and diplomatic failures.

Kim smiled as he took a selfie with Singapore's Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan at the scenic waterfront Gardens by the Bay. In exchange for North Korea's cooperation, the administration is offering Kim both security guarantees and economic aid.

However, it now appears that the U.S.is confident tings are going smoothly.

He left early, and as he flew to Singapore, he tweeted that he was yanking the US out of the traditional group statement.

White House director of social media Dan Scavino later tweeted some more pictures from the event, which was held at the Shangri-La Hotel and not at the embassy itself.

Rodong Sinmun newspaper also seems to be preparing people for talks with the "enemy", publishing an editorial on North Korea's need to establish relations with other countries.

Trump and Kim will meet at the Capella Hotel on Sentosa Island at 9:00 a.m. Tuesday (9:00 p.m. ET on Monday).

Kim told Lee: "The entire world is watching the historic summit between the DPRK and the United States of America, and thanks to your honest efforts. we were able to complete the preparation for the historic summit".

They first met one-on-one before expanding the group for a working lunch. Earlier in the day, he had lunch with Singapore's President Lee Hsien Loong and was presented with a cake ahead of his birthday on Thursday.

The despot took a break from official government business on Monday to take a mini tour with Singapore Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan, his sister and other top deputies.
