Reports have suggested that United have offered a deal of around £55m for Alderweireld, yet the deal on the table falls well short of that figure before add-ons that Spurs believe may be not realistic.

Jose Mourinho is keen to bring Alderweireld to Old Trafford but, according to the London Evening Standard, the negotiations have reached an impasse over Tottenham's asking price.

Of course, United seemingly switching their attention away from Alderweireld does not necessarily mean that Spurs fans can expect to see the defender still in Mauricio Pochettino's ranks when the new campaign begins.

Spurs have the option to trigger a one-year extension but that deal would include a clause allowing Alderweireld to leave for just £25m in 2019 so the north Londoners are prepared to cash-in while they can still command a sizeable fee. Tottenham are commanding over £55 million for the Belgian defender, which has led to a transfer standoff between the two Premier League heavyweights.

"The wage demands, what they can afford and where they need to prioritise and maybe Alderweireld doesn't fit into that structure".

In Kabul , a suicide attacker blew himself up outside the Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development, officials said. Last month, eight people were killed and 45 were wounded in a bomb attack on Ramadan night-time cricket tournament.

Alderweireld is widely regarded as one of the best defenders, not just in the Premier League, but across the world.

"Maybe it's more hard, now more money is coming into the game", he said. In many respects, I probably agree with that.

With Jose Mourinho's side being linked with pretty much every player on the planet, some supporters have identified some dream signings.

Mourinho is wanting to sign a left-back, a midfielder and right winger before the transfer window closes and the club's executive vice-chairman, Ed Woodward, is enquiring over the availability of Real Madrid star Gareth Bale.
