The Sustainability Action Group for the Environment will be holding an information evening on plastics and microplastics in the oceans on Friday, June 15, at 7 the hall at Comox United Church. What started with shoes has since evolved into making third kits for Adidas-sponsored soccer clubs like Bayern Munich and Manchester United.

To commemorate World Oceans Day, Oceanic Global has also partnered with Sailo (described as "the Airbnb of boats and yachts") to launch sustainability guidelines for the boating community.

"Plastic pollution is too pervasive to be solved by one continent, one government or one industrial sector alone, and it affects us all". MI even passed a law that makes it illegal for any city to enact a ban on plastic shopping bags, according to the Washington Post. Plastic takes over 400 years to degrade, that together with the fact that there has been an extreme increase in production since 1950, explains why most of it is still around and growing. The connection between surfing and soccer is non-existent (save the Futmesa tables at the Oi Rio Pro this year).

Around 80% of all pollution in the ocean comes from people on land. Through the work of CARICOM technical agencies, especially the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA), initiatives for the management of plastics to reduce the impacts on the environment have been undertaken.

"We are the crossroads of our time and only through multilateral action that boldly accelerates the clean energy transition, provides jobs, and eradicates poverty can we meet the magnitude of the challenges ahead".

This year's theme is preventing plastic pollution and encouraging solutions for a healthy ocean.

Macron v. Trump: French President Threatens To Rebuke US At Summit

If you're not sure where to begin, try the World Oceans Day website, which includes a calendar of events and celebrations aligned with World Oceans Day and a comprehensive resource page full of information, inspiration and how-tos. When you consider that approximately 71 percent of the Earth's surface is covered in water, and that the oceans hold approximately 96.5 percent of all of the Earth's water supplies, taking a moment or two to think about oceans, may not be a bad idea.

A call to businesses to invest in innovation and design toward more effective and sustainable plastic use. According to a recent study, about 8 million tonnes plastic that we throw in our garbage bins ends up in the oceans, which besides ruining the beauty of our beaches gets ingested by marine animals and seabirds. Any form of life in those zones are impossible for marine or plant life to thrive.

Efforts should be made at all levels: government, community and individual. Why can´t we avoid having so much plastic sneak into our oceans when it was not even there initially?

Try to walk Now we don't mean to say that you walk all the way from one country to another, but walk as much as you can.

By some estimates, as many as five trillion plastic bags are used worldwide every year.

We'll use a plastic straw in our smoothie, for example and excuse it as one small thing.
