When Meghan Markle announced her engagement to Prince Harry, she also revealed that she would be retiring from her day job: acting.

Meghan wore the pearl and diamond studs on her first joint engagement with the monarch.

The queen, 92 and Meghan, 36, will first officially open the Mersey Gateway Bridge, a new toll bridge over the River Mersey and one of the UK's biggest infrastructure projects in recent years.

Harper's Bazaar described the duchess's outfit as "the flawless Givenchy dress" for her first joint outing with the head of state, and branded the caped shoulders "divine".

According to experts, Markle chose a very reserved bodycon dress to highlight her outstanding figure, however, show Elizabeth II that she is ready to adhere to the strict Royal style.

But the opening event was at the Catalyst Museum in West Bank, Widnes, which offers a bird's eye view of the new crossing from the glass top observation gallery.

In 2017, the country faced several terrorism-linked incidents, including shootings and auto ramming. A woman working at a checkout counter was also wounded, though not as seriously.

However, perhaps indicative of how she is learning the royal ropes, the Duchess of Sussex awkwardly required the Queen's help when a tricky protocol moment threatened to derail the joyous trip.

While Meghan Markle and Queen Elizabeth seemed to have a very professional Prince Harry-free outing Thursday, they did hit a hilariously awkward snag when it came to auto etiquette and who should enter the vehicle first.

She said: "It is Ma'am, thrown into conversation as many times as possible".

The train ride, which leaves tonight from London, will give Her Majesty and new granddaughter-in-law the flawless opportunity for some bonding time. She said: "Meghan looked simply ideal, she is actually draw droopingly gorgeous..."

They arrived in Cheshire onboard the royal train and are visiting the new Mersey Gateway Bridge and Chester.

They then visited the Storyhouse arts centre, where a smiling Meghan occasionally leaned over to make a comment to the Queen as they watched performances, including songs by a choir of local schoolchildren.
