The Soyuz MS-09 rocket is pictured standing at its launch pad on a clear blue day at the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan. The spacecraft has entered successfully into the assigned orbit and as estimated, if things go smooth, the ferry ship would reach the ISS on Friday at near about 9:07 a.m. Already aboard the space outpost are NASA astronauts Drew Feustel and Ricky Arnold, as well as Oleg Artemyev of Russia's Roscosmos.

We had contacts with the representatives of the U.S. space agency NASA and the European Space Agency, after which we agreed to maintain the coordination to act as a whole, Rogozin declared.

The Roscosmos stated that the launch of Wednesday was attended by Dmitry Rogozin, its chief, and Jon Huntsman, the United States Ambassador to Russian Federation. Roscosmos said in a statement that cooperation between the US and Russian Federation in space could help improve their relationship back on Earth.

Relations between Moscow and Washington have plummeted to post-Cold War lows over the crisis in Ukraine, the war in Syria and allegations of Russian meddling in the 2016 US presidential elections. ISS expeditions typically last for five to six months, but in March 2016, NASA astronaut Scott Kelly and Russia's Mikhail Kornienko completed a year-long stay on the station in a bid to bolster research into long-term space travel and its effect. He will be accompanied by flight engineers Serena Auñón-Chancellor and Alexander Gerst on the flight.

The American that went up in this mission is at her first flight to outer space.
