Courtney Hadwin, 13, from Hesleden in Country Durham took to the stage in the USA overnight and impressed judge Howie Mandel so much he hit the golden buzzer of glory.

"My God, that is so inappropriate", said Mel B while covering her eyes. And go for it she did!

The youngster appeared quite nervous when talking to the judges before her performance but came into her element when she started singing Otis Redding classic Hard to Handle. "And then you sing and you're like a lion", Cowell told her.

Fellow judge Howie Mandel was also blown away by Courtney, describing her as being like someone from a different era, before he pressed the Golden Buzzer - to signal that she has made through to the live shows in the competition. "I am a huge Janis Joplin fan".

A confused Howie Mandel noted simply, "You're not wearing any underwear".

For the rest of the song the audience are on their feet, as she belts out the 1968 song - and the performance finishes with a standing ovation from everyone in the auditorium. "I mean, genuinely, incredible".

"I'm not Clive Davis, I'm Howie Mandel. The only thing I can do for you young lady is give you this". "I know it's a big stage and there are lots of people here, but you're here for a reason so go for it".
