The stakes certainly appear to be high as Spider-Man struggles to overthrow his rogue's gallery as the trailer ends on a delicious cliffhanger. The combat looks exceptional, the graphics are stunning, the characters are interesting, and the entire world is one that we just want to dive in.

Most notable from the trailer was the breath-taking set pieces that framed the combat, with a staged, nail-biting battle underneath a shedding blossom tree drenched in a warm sunset light rounding off the trailer from Sony's conference. Which, to be fair, looks impressive as hell.

The Sony conference at E3 was the first time any gameplay footage was revealed from the PS4 exclusive.

The full list of Spider-Man PS4 villains known so far can be seen below.

The fourth big game shown of was Insomniac's take on Spider-Man, which we know is coming in September.

"This is the first win for Midtown since Peter Parker claimed the yet-to-be renamed Wilson Fisk Science Prize over seven years ago".

The trailer focuses on one of the last remaining samurai in a time where Mongols are invading Japan.

Mister Negative also makes an appearance late in the clip, but he implies that the villains are all working for someone who wants Spidey alive.

Spider-Man is fantastic - at least based on what I played.

This year was different, and Sony Worldwide Studios Chairman Shawn Layden forewarned us that it would instead hinge around four long "deep dives" into Death Stranding, The Last of Us Part 2, Spider-Man and Ghost of Tsushima. It's available to pre-order right here. And getting that final-release sheen combined with the swinging, the combat, and the trademark quips made me realize that I've wanted this game for almost a decade and a half - and it's absurd that we've had to wait so long for it.
