SteamVR Coming to China Through Partnership Between Valve and Perfect World

Improvements include a simplified "favorites" list that will pin certain friends to the top, an expanded detail set for what each friend is playing and where they are in the game (for instance, sitting on the main menu or facing off in deathmatch), as well as organisational changes, such as grouping friends by the game they're now playing or the party they're in.

Considering there are hundreds of millions of real and potential gamers within China, this deal is huge for Valve, which potentially opens up its library of games and trading features - which Valve makes a killing off of as well - to a much wider audience.

Video game stories from other sites on the web. Game developers will now have the option of including other information in list entries as well, such as where players are located in their game, or whether they're available for matchmaking.

The friends list now has a customizable favorites section at the top, for quick access to the people, groups, and chats you care about most.

Finally, Valve said it also made some "improvements" to Steam's voice chat.

Valve has built a fancy new page that describes all the new features, which can be found here. As the new overhaul is only available in the client to Steam beta users, interested parties will need to go to the client's Settings and opt into the Steam Beta Update in the Accounts tab.

Steam voice chat was rewritten from the ground up with a new WebRTC-based backend.
