Trump Trade War - French president Macron to meet Trump

German Chancellor Angela Merkel has called President Donald Trump's choice to break ranks with US allies-by backing out of a joint statement on social media and then deride foreign leaders-"a little depressing".

The White House is expecting a chilly reception from Canada and West European countries, already frustrated over Trump's withdrawal from the Paris climate accord and the Iran nuclear agreement.

The French president's office said in a statement: "International co-operation can not be dictated by fits of anger and throwaway remarks".

"Let's be serious and worthy of our people".

Bond prices spent the day bouncing back and forth across the unchanged line. We stick to it. "We stand by it and whoever leaves it and turns their back on it is showing inconsistency and lack of character".

German Minister of Foreign Affairs Heiko Maas also condemned Trump's move, according to Deutsche Well, a German news publication.

"It's actually not a real surprise". They include the USA trade war with Europe, climate change, relations with Iran and the Israel-Palestinian conflict.

In a caption he wrote on Twitter, Verhofstadt said: "Just tell us what Vladimir has on you".

"One will be that we will have to represent our interests in Europe as much more closed from the outside. Because we should have Russian Federation at the negotiating table", he said.

Merkel responded to the tweet on Sunday, saying: "I don't think that inflammatory language makes things better".

The G-7 groups Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan and the United States, plus the European Union. Mr. Tusk said, "Thanks to Trump we have got rid of all illusions [of unity]". "We are actually working on cutting tariffs and making it all very fair for both countries".

Just like Canada, the European Union is preparing counter-measures against United States tariffs on steel and aluminium imports, Merkel said.

The rhetoric has only worsened in the days since, with White House officials insulting G7 leaders and Trump himself doubling down on his threats.

"In a culture of open discussion, it's possible that we don't agree on all points", Merkel said. "Canadians, we're polite, we're reasonable, but we also will not be pushed around". Shortly after that statement was published online, Trump complained about comments made by Trudeau and revoked his support. Instead, she said that she would still try to achieve compromises through dialogue and "go her own way" if the dialogue brings no results. "We're like the piggy bank that everybody is robbing and that ends".

U.S. officials travelling with Trump admitted they had been surprised by Trump's suggestion, which one said was "not something planned", and Canada's Foreign Minister Chrystia Freeland said it had not been formally put on the G-7 table. And add to that the fact that the USA pays close to the entire cost of NATO-protecting many of these same countries that rip us off on Trade (they pay only a fraction of the cost-and laugh!).

Tensions between the USA and its allies have increased in recent weeks after a series of White House decisions have frustrated some of the United States' closest worldwide partners.

"The action which Canada has objected to, and will continue to object to very strongly, was the illegal and unjustified imposition of tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminum".
