Rodriguez, who was interviewed by investigators, doesn't remember much about the incident, but he was able to identify his alleged attacker in the video.

Rodolfo Rodriguez was on his daily walk near his home when he accidentally bumped into a young girl while trying to pass her on the pavement.

Translating his grandfather's account of what happened next, Mendoza said: 'And when he turned his back they just tossed him on the floor and she started hitting him, and then she grabbed a brick and started hitting him with the brick, and then out of nowhere he saw 3-4 other guys just come rushing and just start stomping on him'. Erik Mendoza, his grandson, told the local station his grandfather doesn't speak English and doesn't understand why he was attacked.

"He is doing really bad, has a lot of bruises on his face and a broken cheekbone", Mendoza wrote on the GoFundMe which launched July 6.

Rodriguez's attack comes after the Department of Justice released its recent hate crime statistics, reported by KCRA. Rodriguez said he blacked out during the violence.

Shortly after, four others got out of a vehicle and started beating Rodriguez as well, family members said.

A 92-year-old man was attacked by five people, beaten with a brick, and told to 'go back to your country'.

The beating left Rodriguez with several injuries, including a bruised and battered face, a broken cheekbone, head injuries, and bruised ribs. "There's no harm that he meant for you to treat him the way you did".

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department is investigating the incident. "That's why we're still in shock, as you can see he's badly injured".

According to the eyewitness, the man was walking down the sidewalk and he passed the woman.

"We are concerned, especially with the type of crime they committed", Deputy D'Angelo Robinson told KCBS.

The family has set up a GoFundMe page for Rodriguez as he recovers in the hospital. Sheriff's Det. Carlos Cueva said no one had been apprehended as of Monday evening. There are no current leads on the three or four male suspects who beat Rodriguez. "We can't have these kind of people ... out in the streets".
