The other star of the night for Oregon State was starting pitcher Kevin Abel.

Arkansas was the national runner-up in 1979, the first of four times that retired coach Norm DeBriyn piloted the Razorbacks to the College World Series. Who's to say? I don't think we'll ever know.

Abel was so effective against Arkansas that the next guy was never needed. On the flip side, Oregon State's Adley Rutschman proved he should be a top pick in next year's Major League Baseball draft by hitting 8-for-13 with three RBI's and one HR. He struck out 10. And that was the goal.

And he just kept getting outs, against an elite Arkansas offense that simply could not solve him.

"And it just stayed steady throughout the game".

It won't be an easy task, though, since Oregon State had five.300 hitters in its lineup in Game 2. Larnach went 1-for-3 with a run scored Thursday while Grenier scored twice Thursday. The Beavers lost back-to-back midseason series at Utah, which finished last in the Pac-12, and at sixth-place Arizona. Abel made sure of that. They were down to their final out in Game Two of the Finals on Wednesday night, and a misplayed pop-up by the Arkansas defense gave them a stay of execution. He challenged the Razorbacks on the inner half of the plate especially.

Burleson heard more and ejected Zach Barr, the Razorbacks' video coordinator with, "You know what, goodbye".

"The guys behind me ... you can not find a better group of young men to represent the state of Oregon and Oregon State University", Casey said.

He did it against an Arkansas team that had not been shut out since April 9, 2017. And the Beavers' 31 two-out RBIs were the most by any team at this event over the past 20 years.

"You couldn't predict what he was going to do", Carson Shaddy said.

The Razorbacks (48-21) weren't. "As soon as we got on campus, they really enforce the mentality that you need to win a national championship". And I can't explain to you enough how much this game has... the way it's treated me. And they weren't the same.

The Beavers proved it Thursday.

It was the first time in Abel's baseball career he'd thrown a full nine innings.

His 129th pitch Thursday was the called third strike that secured the program's third title.

Larnach perfectly executed a hit and run single to right.

"On behalf of the entire state of OR, we are so proud of each and every one of you", Brown proclaimed.

Abel (8-1) ran into trouble in the third when Arkansas loaded the bases with one out. In 49 pitches, he faced 11 batters and earned 3 runs off of 2 hits. All three of his singles factored in the scoring.

"First, I'd like to thank the city of Omaha and this incredible tournament by the NCAA...was so well run". The teams were tied at the end of three innings and traded three leads before the Beavers struck the decisive blows. Arkansas was represented by senior Jared Gates, junior Blaine Knight, sophomore Dominic Fletcher and freshmen Heston Kjerstad and Casey Martin. The usage and overuse of Abel over the past week was borderline abuse by Beavers head coach Pat Casey. His two-hit gem was one of the best performances in a CWS final. He pounded three more hits to set the single-CWS record with 17, batting at a.567 clip in Omaha as Oregon State became the second team in CWS history to win the title after losing the opening game of its stay and the first game of the finals.

Our take: Oregon State capitalized on the momentum from its comeback Wednesday by taking an early lead in Thursday's finale. Rutschman singled past third baseman Martin on the shortstop side for OSU's first run.
