Rumors regarding Williams' return began to swirl recently after the actor had to cancel an appearance at the Saskatchewan Entertainment Expo due to a film schedule conflict.

Williams made his debut as the gambling scoundrel in Star Wars: Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back, reprising in Episode VI: Return of the Jedi, and in countless other Star Wars shows like Star Wars Rebels and games like Star Wars: Jedi Knight II - Jedi Outcast.

Rumors have been flying of Williams' return to the role since last month, when a Star Wars fan site reported that Williams was set to return. Star Wars: Episode 9 is set to begin production this summer.

Lando Calrissian has, of course, enjoyed something of a boost in popularity as of late, thanks to Donald Glover's performance as the character in Ron Howard's Solo: A Star Wars Story.

The actor, who famously played the galactic gambler Lando Calrissian, will reprise the role for Star Wars: Episode IX, the next Star Wars installment from Lucasfilm.

The as-yet-unnamed Star Wars Episode IX reunites new stars Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac and Adam Driver.

The film, directed by J.J. Abrams, is set for release December 20, 2019, with filming expected to start soon.
