Sacha Baron Cohen has given fans a tantalising first glimpse at what may be his most audacious project yet.

The 22-second trailer opens with the text: "Imagine if Sacha Baron Cohen had been undercover secretly filming a new show for a year".

The show, which will feature a new character from the Ali G actor's repertoire, is set for release on July 15, and clues about what to expect are beginning to crop up.

On Sunday night, Baron Cohen dropped a brief teaser that reveals he apparently somehow got former Vice President and torture enthusiast Dick Cheney to autograph a "waterboard kit". Baron Cohen asks off camera in the promo, before Cheney is seen signing the item. "That's the first time I've ever signed a waterboard".

"We'd like to tell you about a new comedy that's coming, but we can't", the network said in their promotional video.

On Sunday, Erdogan fired more than 18,600 people from government jobs for allegedly posing a security risk to the state. However, major Western leaders would not be in attendance, according to Reuters .

Leave it to comedian Sacha Baron Cohen to convince his interview subjects to do just about anything.

The first major inkling of the project (which isn't even listed on his IMDB page yet) came at the end of June, when Showtime released a very mysterious teaser for the show, asking: "So how do we promote perhaps the most unsafe show in the history of television when we're not allowed to show it?"

"Sacha is a comedic genius who shocks you with his audacity, bravery and inventiveness", Showtime CEO David Nevins said in a statement. Posters for Cohen's show say that it airs Sundays at 10 p.m. ET, so that lines up.

He posted a clip of Donald Trump slating him from his office in Trump Tower, after Trump was duped into speaking to Ali G back in 2003.

Trump in the video also told Cohen to go back to school to learn how to be amusing.
