TEHRAN, Iran-Iran executed eight people Saturday for their involvement in the June 2017 Islamic State attack on the country's parliament and the shrine of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini in Tehran.

He further noted that those arrested ISIS members sought to use Iran as a safe haven for continuing their terrorist acts after the terror group was defeated in Syria and Iraq.

The Iranian men were convicted of collaborating directly with the IS jihadists who carried out the attacks on June 7, 2017, Mizan Online reported. In August 2007, Iran hanged seven men convicted of rape in Mashhad at the same time. A total of 22 people - 17 civilians and 5 assailants - were killed during the attacks.

We will remind, on 7 June in Iran there was a shootout in the mausoleum of Imam Khomeini, which lies to the South of the Iranian capital Tehran.

Security forces killed some of the gunmen while others blew themselves up.

The assault was the first and only claimed by the Islamic State group in Tehran.

President Duterte has said that critics are welcome to criticise him - unless they are foreigners, and in particular religious ones.

Iran's paramilitary Revolutionary Guard responded to the attack by launching six missiles into eastern Syria, targeting ISIL.

Le Drian made the remarks before attending a meeting with other parties to JCPOA on the future of the Iran nuclear deal following the USA withdrawal.

Iran remains one of the world's top executioners. According to Amnesty International, Iran executed over 500 people previous year.

The ISIS executions come as controversy still swirls in Iran around the country's mass executions of 1988 near the end of the Iran-Iraq War.

The executions represent one of the darkest moments of Iran's post-revolution history and are still not recognized by its government.
