The electronics maker is reporting estimated profit of 14.8 trillion Korean won (USD$13.2BN) on revenue of 58 trillion Korean won (USD$51.9BN) for the quarter. While there's still a chance they may be wrong, SamMobile points out that Olixar's Note 8 renders were accurate, plus given how close we are to launch there's no reason for the company to use unofficial renders that weren't approved by Samsung itself.

The forecast came at the low end of market consensus, which averaged at 15.3 trillion won.

Smartphone sales started to cool previous year after a decade of robust growth, but Samsung had managed to weather the slowdown, thanks to demand for memory.

Samsung was also hurt by a fall in prices for its liquid crystal display panels, which are used in both TVs and smart devices.

"Sentiment is absolutely not positive as South Korea heavily relies on exports, but we should see if that really hurts financially key exporters like Samsung", said Park Jung-hoon, a fund manager at HDC Asset Management that owns Samsung shares.

Samsung warned in April that second-quarter profits in its mobile business should decline sequentially.

Samsung said it will publish its full second-quarter earnings later this month. That streak was primarily fueled by its lucrative memory chip business, which profited from increased demand from device manufacturers thanks to a reduced supply in the industry. Prices for 128 gigabit MLC NAND flash memory chips fell about 9 percent, according to inSpectrum Tech Inc.

"The won depreciation is working in Samsung's favor", said Claire Kim, an analyst at Daishin Securities Co.

Analysts have also lowered their views on Samsung, the Financial Times reported.
