Jordan, who is now an OH congressman, has denied knowing about allegations of sexual abuse and has said he will cooperate with investigators.

The source said Jordan's relationships within the House Freedom Caucus are strong, with his colleagues seeing him as a "good man who was probably just in a bad situation".

Rep. Jordan has signaled that he plans to run to replace Speaker Paul Ryan after the 2018 midterm elections.

DiSabato, whose allegations against Strauss prompted the university to investigate, called Jordan a liar outright. If they had, I would have dealt with it what bothers me the most guys saying these things I know they know the truth.

In an interview, Garrett told CNN he was briefly employed by Strauss to work at his off-campus clinic in 1996, after he finished his undergraduate studies and before he became a graduate nursing student at OSU.

Even before the attempt to smear conservative superstar Rep. Jim Jordan with accusations of covering up sexual abuse on the Ohio State University wrestling team began to fall apart, the President and a host of conservative leaders have stepped up to defend the Freedom Caucus leader, with Trump speaking up for Jordan in an interview aboard Air Force One.

It came as President Barack Obama's former chief ethics lawyer and the head of the Democracy 21 watchdog group asked the House of Representatives Office of Congressional Ethics to examine whether Jordan was lying when he claimed to be unaware of sexual abuse by the team doctor.

"If it is determined that Rep. Jordan is lying to cover up his failure to protect student wrestlers under his supervision from sexual abuses, the House must hold Rep. Jordan accountable for his lies".

Jordan has denied knowing about the abuse and questioned the motivation of those coming forward.

In response, Jordan told Fox News: "I never saw, never heard of, never was told about any type of abuse".

Five former wrestlers, including former UFC world champion Mark Coleman, this week told the Wall Street Journal that Jordan knew of the misconduct.

The appointee would replace Justice Anthony Kennedy , 81, who announced last month that he will retire this summer. Jones was among the Democratic lawmakers invited to the announcement at the White House but did not attend.

McCarthy's office did not respond to a request for comment about Jordan. There's an investigation going on. "If in fact there are victims, they deserve justice".

Hellickson has not returned messages left by The Associated Press.

Jordan returned to DC Monday after Congress' July 4th holiday break, and the House will reconvene Tuesday.

Six former Ohio State University wrestling coaches released a statement on Monday in support of Rep.

'I considered Jim Jordan a friend, ' DiSabato told NBC News.

David Range is the latest person to come forward and claim that Ohio Representative Jim Jordan knew all about abuses that allegedly took place at Ohio State University.

"The well-being of student-athletes was all of our concern", the statement continued. Strauss committed suicide in 2005.

Rep. Louie Gohmert on Monday defended his Republican colleague, Jim Jordan of OH, arguing the former wrestlers who say Jordan knew about abuse allegations and did nothing about it were adults when the alleged abuse happened to them and that the accusers have not said that they specifically reported abuse to Jordan at the time.

Rep. Jordan and House Freedom Caucus Chairman Mark Meadows (R-NC) spearheaded a resolution, which passed through the House in June, demanding that Rosenstein turn over all Justice Department and Federal Bureau of Investigation documents requested by Congress. House Republicans have threatened to impeach or hold Rosenstein in contempt if he does not turn over the documents.

The former wrestler says that Hellickson and Jordan had to have known about Strauss' actions because wrestlers would talk about it openly "in the locker room, on the buses, during practice".
