Well, one might assume that getting abruptly fired off a blockbuster franchise would be damaging to one's career, but a new report over at The Hollywood Reporter indicates this probably won't be the case for James Gunn: according to their sources, rival studios are chomping at the bit to hire the guy.
Warner Bros. and DC especially are reportedly interested in recruiting Gunn if he were to part ways with Disney. Or could they even be considering having Gunn return to the production?
Although Barr's tweets are new and about an actual person, Disney is aware it will look weak and hypocritical if it backs down and rehires Gunn.
The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that despite the unearthing of controversial and inappropriate tweets which gave way to Disney firing James Gunn from the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise at Marvel Studios, the director is still being sought after to work on big projects at rival studios. An exit settlement needs to be reached (allegedly, Gunn's payout could be in the $7-10M range).
Guardians of the Galaxy drama Dave Bautista tweets
Avengers and Guardians star Dave Bautist has been highly vocal in his support for Gunna nd his disgust overteh way Disney has handled teh situation.
Since Gunn was sacked by Disney in July, he received an outpouring of support from his former Guardians of the Galaxy cast and from industry insiders who disapproved of Disney kowtowing to alt-right demands. The jokes include repellent jokes involving rape, pedophilia, and other matters that do not match Disney's squeaky clean family friendly image... or any good taste.
James Gunn is a director in demand, oddly enough. It was using his social media platform to complain about actual children in cages due to the policies of President Donald Trump's administration that made Gunn a target for this exhumation of bad online behavior.
