Bernard shares why he chose to join Everton over other clubs

Marco Silva's Everton looked to be heading into the 2018-19 season having only strengthened with Richarlison and Lucas Digne, but on Thursday they found agreements with Barcelona for Yerry Mina and Andre Gomes, while Brazil worldwide Bernard signed on a free transfer following his Shakhtar Donetsk departure.

The Colombia worldwide completed a £28.5million switch from Barcelona, having been the subject of interest from Manchester United and Lyon.

Everton have signed Portugal global Andre Gomes on a season-long loan from Barcelona.

Barcelona can buy the centre-half back for around £30m if he does well at Goodison but, for now, he is an Everton player.

Mina was also linked with Manchester United, but Everton are putting the finishing touches to a permanent deal for the Colombia World Cup star.

There have been no ins or outs at Tottenham this summer, while other Premier League big guns have made significant investments. And yet, with the season about to kick off, Spurs' position as a Premier League power seems more and more uncertain.

Chelsea had looked into adding the Brazilian to their squad, and even offered him a contract, but ultimately Bernard was swayed by the chance of more regular football under the guidance of Silva at Everton.

"I chose Everton because of all the things I had heard about Marco Silva and after speaking to him I was happy with what he said to me", he told evertontv.

"Every discussion we've had was very important in making me feel his confidence about my game". He has achieved really good things at other clubs. This is a great opportunity for me and I am looking forward to competing here.

"I spoke to Lucas and he told me all about the Club, which also made me keen to come here".

Asked specifically about his chat with Silva, he continued: 'I did not need a lot of convincing.

There was a predictably frantic conclusion to the last hours of business, the Premier League waiting to register ten players after the 5pm deadline, deal sheets submitted pending medicals and the agreement of personal terms.
