Former Real Madrid striker, Ronaldo De Lima, is reportedly in intensive care in an Ibiza hospital, after coming down with pneumonia.

The 41-year old is, however, said to be making good progress, with hospital sources at Misses saying they were unable to give out any information for "data protection reasons".

Brazil icon Ronaldo has offered an update on his personal wellbeing following reports he was hospitalised with flu on Friday.

Ronaldo, whose club career took in spells at Cruzeiro, PSV Eindhoven, Barcelona, Inter Milan, Real Madrid, AC Milan and Corinthians, is on holiday in Ibiza, where he owns a house.

Ronaldo is believed to have arrived in Ibiza for a summer break a few days ago.

He is no stranger to illness, however.

VAR trials are taking place this season in the Premier League, just without the referee receiving the information. Wolves will not be affected by outside expectations this season, according to head coach Nuno Espirito Santo .

Pneumonia affects the lungs and is caused by bacterial infection.

Symptoms - which include a cough and difficulty breathing - can develop suddenly over 24 to 48 hours.

In his later years he battled with overweight because of a thyroid problem. It can be potentially life-threatening if severe and is particularly unsafe for the elderly or those with pre-existing conditions.

He picked up the Ballon d'Or award for the best player in the world in 1997 and 2002. He won the Golden Ball at the 1998 World Cup and the Golden Boot four tears later as the Selecao triumphed.

Here's hoping that he can make a speedy recovery.
