It looks more and more likely that Thibaut Courtois will be a Real Madrid player when the transfer window in Spain ends at the start of September.

Kepa Arrizabalaga's €80m (£71m) buyout clause has been met, Athletic Bilbao have announced, as the goalkeeper appears on the verge of a world record move to Chelsea.

Kepa, who came close to joining Real Madrid in January, becomes the world's most expensive goalkeeper, his fee surpassing the 67 million euros Liverpool splashed out for Roma's Alisson last month.

Chelsea revealed yesterday that they had reached an agreement with the European champions for the Belgium global, who was entering the final year of his contract at Stamford Bridge.

Courtois had been preparing to enter into the final year of his deal at Chelsea, with no extension put in place.

But there are other clubs who say they haven't got time and wish we hadn't chose to do it". I remember a little bit Paul Scholes who had the special feeling in that position.

While not discussing the status of the transfer, Chelsea coach Maurizio Sarri said that Kepa was "very young, but very, very good".

"For me, Courtois is one of the best", he said on Sky Sports' Premier League launch show. "It's an accumulation of things, and I am very glad Chelsea has made a decision to trust me and to take me in as well".

"He has already demonstrated fantastic quality and consistency and will be a big part of any success Chelsea have in the coming years", Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia said.

Mateo Kovacic has revealed how he sought the advice of his Croatian and Real Madrid team-mate, Luka Modric, before sealing a loan move to Chelsea for the upcoming season.

With Arrizabalaga's arrival, the Blues are expected to sanction the departure of Courtois, who has been constantly leaning towards a Real Madrid move.
