Dead fetus found on plane at LaGuardia Airport, reports say

The cleaning crew made the discovery at 7:30 a.m. while servicing the American Airlines flight that had arrived from Charlotte, North Carolina on Monday night, the New York Post reports.

The fetus, believed to be five months old, was found in a bathroom aboard American Airlines flight 1942 around 6 a.m.

After the aircraft - an Airbus A321 - remained on the ground overnight, a cleaning crew came on board ahead of the plane's planned Tuesday departure.

The plane was in a hangar and had arrived in NY from Charlotte, North Carolina, on Monday night.

"We have no major impact to our operation this morning while we are working with law enforcement on an investigation". An autopsy is being performed on the fetus to determine cause of death.

The Queens County District Attorney is looking into the matter. "Please contact law enforcement or the medical examiner's office for additional information", American Airlines said in a statement.

Airport officials this morning tweeted about possible delays, but did not make mention of the reason.

"They didn't tell us anything until we were already waiting at the gate", she griped.
