While officials sounded the horn just after 3.30pm local time on Friday, Scott had fired a five-under-par 65 at Bellerive Country Club in Missouri hours earlier to earn a 36-hole score of five under.

"The golf course is good", said Woodland, a three-time PGA Tour victor who has never finished among the top 10 in a major championship.

Kisner made bogey on No. 9 and finished the day with a 64, one stroke behind Woodland and one ahead of Brooks Koepka, victor of the past two U.S. Opens.

Woodland has a one-shot lead over Kevin Kisner, with Koepka another shot back followed by Schwartzel, Dustin Johnson and Thomas Pieters in a tie for fourth at 7 under par.

Woodland shot a 66 and finished his day as leader in the clubhouse by one stroke with a score of 130, a record after two days at the PGA Championship.

Lowry was three under par for the first ten holes of his second round when play was suspended by rain yesterday.

Tiger Woods is tied for 23rd at 3-under-par, but only got in seven holes before the suspension. And then his round was derailed - but only temporarily - when he came up a foot short of the green on the par-3 sixth hole, went into the water and made triple bogey.

While countryman Adam Scott is safely in the clubhouse five shots off the pace, Day was among the half of the field who failed to complete their second rounds before play was suspended for the day due to risky weather.

The second round begins at 8 a.m. (EDT) Saturday and, after the 36-hole cut is made, the third round will be played in threesomes going off both the first and 10th tees.

"I feel safe where my game is", Woodland said. I'm putting well, and I'm very happy.

"It's always a bit frustrating to have to come back and finish a round in the morning, but that's golf, and something I will just have to deal with", Fox said after his truncated round. "Hopefully I can go shoot a low one this afternoon".

"I'm all right with it", Kisner said. He's absolutely striping it and rolling the rock, so if he's going to keep that up we're going to have a pretty good battle if I can too. "Sometimes you are in your own mind and don't know where you are at".

"The crowds are as big as I've seen", Woodland said. "Gary and I are good buddies, had a great time out there playing and if I could only hit it as far as he could it would be a different game". I have more people coming in this weekend.
