Omarosa needs a lawyer-she made a recording of the White House Chief of Staff in a classified area called a SCIF.

Former White House aide and reality TV star Omarosa Manigault Newman claims she has heard a tape of Donald Trump using the N-word and other racial epithets during filming for The Apprentice.

The name-calling came in response to a question about a series of explosive claims in Manigault Newman's forthcoming book about her time in the Trump administration.

Manigualt-Newman told NBC's Chuck Todd she recorded conversations to protect herself in a White House known for throwing people under the bus. But Sunday she tells Chuck Todd that, after the book closed, she was able to hear it personally.

"It's pretty clear from that recording that John Kelly came in and said 'This is the end, we want you to leave, '" she said.

Washington police threw a ring of steel around the White House on Sunday, ahead of a white supremacist rally that will see neo-Nazis marching in the nation's capital a year after a deadly protest highlighted the growing boldness of America's extreme right.

"It's very obvious a threat", she said.

She insists her firing last December was because she knew too much about a possible audio recording of the President uttering a racial epithet, which she claims was the subject of deep consternation among campaign - and later White House - aides. "So I protected myself and now I am glad I did". "But when he talks that way, the way he does on this tape, it confirms that he is truly a racist".

But Newman pushed back against her critics by arguing that she can substantiate her claims in the book.

Manigault Newman's purported recordings inside the White House - especially the Situation Room, which is supposed to be one of the most secure locations on Earth - represents a serious breach of security protocol, said Ned Price, a former National Security Council spokesman for the Obama administration.

The White House has defended the president, slamming the former staffer's book as being "riddled with lies and false accusations".

Manigault Newman's book also alleges how Trump made a farcical effort to sell copies of his book Trump: The Art Of The Deal at his inauguration as President in January a year ago.

On Saturday, Trump called Manigault a "low life."
