The Denver Broncos appear to be having quarterback troubles once again this offseason, and some have raised the possibility that they could add another veteran before the season.

The Denver Broncos need to find a backup quarterback for the upcoming National Football League season after demoting Paxton Lynch to the third spot and second-year QB Chad Kelly still being developed.

Denver attempted to acquire Kaepernick in 2016, when he was entering the final year of his contract with the 49ers.

"So, you know, and as I said at my deposition, and I don't know if I'm legally able to say this but", Elway continued, "he's had his chance to be here". Elway made a decision to address the situation head-on by revealing that the Broncos offered the QB a contract and he turned it down.

Though Keenum has never missed time due to injury, Elway doesn't want to take any chances.

Via an April 2016 story on NBCSports Bay Area, Kaepernick was slated to earn a guaranteed base salary of $11.9 million from San Francisco in 2016; Elway wouldn't pay more than $7 million, a 41 percent cut in pay - and wanted Kaepernick to be the starter.

Kaepernick ultimately chose to stay with the 49ers.

Shaun King, a columnist with the New York Daily News and high-profile supporter of Black Lives Matter, was quick to criticize Elway's comments - and the manner in which they were aggregated by major outlets like Sports Illustrated - as intellectually dishonest for the implication that Kaepernick turned down the contract after beginning his protest.

Back in May, Elway gave a deposition for the lawyers of Kaepernick in his collusion case against the NFL.
