If we are happy with our squad and can not improve our squad, sometimes it's better to keep our squad together.
The north Londoners did try to lure Aston Villa'sJack Grealish to White Hart Lane, but the Championship club's new owners prevented the England Under-21 global from leaving Villa Park.
World Cup-winning goal keeper, Hugo Lloris was also on hand sporting a close-shaved haircut, as was South Korea's Son Heung-min who signed a new three-year contract with the club last month.
"We didn't sell players and with 25 players in the squad it is hard to add players".
Spurs were frustrated in attempts to sign Jack Grealish from Aston Villa this summer, but further recruits were dependent on players leaving the club first.
"Of course it's hard to understand for people that Tottenham didn't sign or sell players, but sometimes in football you need to behave differently".
Despite no new arrivals for the first season at their brand new stadium, Pochettino feels they can still go on to do great things this term.
Everton beats Man Utd to sign Barca defender Mina , who was linked with a move to Manchester United , joins the Toffees on a permanent deal worth €30.25 million. Portugal midfielder Gomes joins on an initial one-year loan deal after the teams agreed a €2.25m fee.
Asked why the club have struggled to recruit players this summer, Pochettino replied: "The market was insane".
"I believe in the way that we work and I have no doubt we will be competitive, with or without signings". [It's about] if you really need [them] or not and then if you can get your target or not.
Pochettino indicating that some of those players won't even travel to Newcastle and instead stay in London and concentrate on their recovery from the summer exertions.
"It's true our targets are always the same level as Manchester United, Manchester City or Real Madrid, but for different circumstances we can't achieve that".
"Newcastle of course in this period have an advantage to us in their preparation with the whole squad, but that is not a reason to complain".
"I am happy with the squad, happy with the players".
Not all will feature in Saturday's Premier League opener at Newcastle but Pochettino is expecting a good performance nonetheless.
