One crunching challenge on Arsenal new boy Matteo Guendouzi resulted in a booking, but the tackle was more enthusiastic than malicious.

Emery takes the controls at Arsenal coming off a French Ligue 1 championship in just his second year at that league's powerhouse Paris Saint-Germain, the BBC reported.

Raheem Sterling in the 14′ and Bernardo Silva in the 64′ were the two shooters to get the ball past Cech, who didn't have a very solid showing.

Pep Guardiola's side swept to the title last term with a record 100 points and they were quickly back in the groove at the Emirates Stadium. Bellerin cracked an effort straight at Ederson midway through the first half, but the Gunners were sloppy in the final third - epitomised when Mesut Ozil misjudged a run from Aaron Ramsey and subsequently passed straight to Stones who sparked a counter-attack.

Look at what Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech did in the first half, almost kicking the ball into his own net.

New Arsenal Manager Unai Emery, who makes his Premier League debut with the Gunners on Sunday.

"Petr Cech is one of the best goalkeepers we've ever seen in the Premier League but he struggles with the ball at his feet", noted Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher afterwards. Sterling found the overlapping Benjamin Mendy in the move which led to Bernardo Silva's goal.

Jorginho, Sarri debut with easy Chelsea win
It was a ideal start for both players, too , with Kepa keeping a clean sheet and Jorginho scoring his first goal for the club. Manchester United kicked off the season on Friday with a 2-1 win over Leicester City at Old Trafford.

Having spent the dying embers of Wenger's reign subjecting the Frenchman to vitriolic abuse, Arsenal's fans were energised by the sight of Emery on the touchline.

"We wanted to show our performance but it is clear against Manchester City we could not give them this win".

Man City's domestic success has been well documented over the last few years, while Arsenal have failed to finish in the top four of the EPL in back-to-back seasons for the first time since 1996.

Emery was not afraid to make bold changes during the game, either.

For Emery, an opening game against the Premier League champions is a daunting task.

"We are not going to judge what is going to happen after one game but we try to respond, we try to be ourselves. To help positions across the team with positive spirit". The next chapter is underway, but Emery's work is only just beginning.
