"He threatened her by saying that if she doesn't do as he says, he'll beat her up the same way as he is beating the woman in the video", a police officer cited by The Hindu said. According to media reports, police in West Delhi have registered an FIR against Rohit Singh Tomar after a woman filed a complaint on watching the video.

The complainant said she has now called off the wedding with Tomar.

A medical examination was conducted, after which an FIR under sections 376 (rape), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), and 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) was registered at the station. He had allegedly threatened that she would meet the same fate if she did not marry him.

Earlier, Home Minister Rajnath Singh tweeted that a video where a youth is seen severely beating a woman has come to his notice.

The video went viral on social networking sites.

. Notably, Tomar was taken into custody hours after Home Minister Rajnath Singh asked Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik to take strict action against him.

The police said they had detained Rohit Tomar, and later released him on a personal bond.

In the video, which was filmed and posted online by Tomar's friend, he is seen dragging a woman by her hair, pushing her to the ground, kicking and punching her.

The woman who was seen brutally being thrashed by the accused in the video knew the accused for two years and was a friend, said police.

The woman in the video was then identified and approached on Thursday night after which she gave a complaint to the police on Friday alleging that she has been raped.

The incident reportedly took place on September 2.

This was after repeated attempts to get the Delhi Police to act in the case went futile.

The cases against the accused have been registered on the basis of the statement given by two women, the police said.
