On Thursday, Zabaykalsky maneuvers on the range Tsugol was watched by the President of Russia Vladimir Putin.

In the far East of Russian Federation has completed the main phase of the military exercises "Vostok-2018".

Russian Federation began its biggest war games since the fall of the Soviet Union on Tuesday close to its border with China, mobilising 300,000 troops in a show of force that will include joint exercises with the Chinese army.

"It is our duty to our country is to be ready to defend our sovereignty, our security and our national interests, and, if necessary, to support our allies", said the Russian president at the end of a vast military parade following the maneuvers.

He added: "Therefore, we will continue to strengthen our armed forces, equip them with latest weapons and technologies, to develop global military cooperation".

Putin praised the "mastery" of the Russian army and its "capacity to face down potential threats" after watching the drills at the Tsugol military training ground near the borders with Mongolia and China.

Chinese troops have joined the Russians. "We do not have and cannot have any plan of aggression", has, however, assured Mr Putin.

The Chinese and Mongolian armed forces are also participating.

North Atlantic Treaty Organisation spokesman Dylan White said: "All nations have the right to exercise their armed forces, but it is essential that this is done in a transparent and predictable manner".

"Our foreign policy is aimed at constructive cooperation with all countries that are interested in it", he added. The official noted that 91 observers from 57 countries, NATO Military Liaison Mission and EU Delegation to Russian Federation attend the large-scaled exercises.
