Chelsea defender David Luiz has hailed manager Maurizio Sarri's footballing philosophy and insists that he is enjoying playing under the Italian.

Since Sarri took over the charges from Antonio Conte, Chelsea have started to play possession-based football.

The 31-year-old, who was a key figure when Chelsea last won the Premier League title in 2016, went on to claim that Sarri's high success rate in London is due to his attitude towards life and that his philosophy revolves around enjoying every day.

After many anecdotes have emerged about Sarri's enigmatic operation, Luiz has confirmed the mood at Stamford Bridge is a world away from what it was just months ago.

Speaking about Sarri, Luiz said, "First of all he's a great person, great as a human", the Brazil global said of Sarri in an interview with Chelsea magazine.

"So, I believe in his philosophy and then after that he is a great coach".

A recent example is that of former Chelsea Coach Antonio Conte, who in his first season won the Premier League title with Chelsea, but was shown the door after failing to maintain his team's quality of performance.

"Every week he tries to make the best plan possible for the exact game and this is great because he is working in the best way for the team, for the collective", he added. "I think in one week he will be ready to play".

While dethroning champions Manchester City might be a tough ask, Makelele - a two-time Premier League victor with the Blues - is expecting big things from Sarri. "For the moment, the captain is Azpilicueta, I will tell you the final decision after I talk with the players and club".

Chelsea endured a hard campaign in 2017-18 and their dismal performance only helped them finish 5th in the league table, which made them unqualified to participate in the UEFA Champions League. In one moment of the season, everybody was saying it was the worst for Chelsea in the last 10 years. So we changed our worst year for a long time into the best year in the history of this club.
