Florence is a large hurricane and will affect much of North and SC. Dubbed the "Storm of a lifetime", the National Weather Service expects the hurricane to reach the Carolinas on Thursday or Friday, and may linger over the weekend - bringing with it "catastrophic" winds and flooding rainfall.

A risky Hurricane Florence is steadily making its way to the U.S. East Coast.

"An Air Force Reserve Hurricane Hunter aircraft that was in the hurricane until just after midnight" recorded a peak wind gust of around 150 miles per hour, according to the hurricane center. Strengthening is forecast through Wednesday.

President Trump is receiving regular updates on the situation. With Hurricane Florence set to wallop the area as a Category 4 hurricane, there are fears the ponds could overflow or even collapse amid extremely heavy rain, sending vast amounts of manure from thousands of farms into rivers and contaminating groundwater.

Toronto-Dominion Bank has temporarily closed some of its locations in the Carolinas as Hurricane Florence approaches the US east coast.
