One in four people in the United Kingdom suffer from this illness and I really hope this campaign will continue to extend the conversation about how important good mental health is, and how urgently we need the government to pour money into mental health resources - the county's crying out for it.

Elaine Peng, a mental health educator in the San Francisco Bay Area, made the remarks on World Mental Health Day, which is observed on October 10 every year, with the objective of raising awareness of mental health issues around the world and mobilizing efforts in support of the issue.

The report, launched at the first Global Ministerial Mental Health Summit in London, said people with mental illness still suffered "gross human rights violations" in many countries.

Dr Appau appealed to the media to intensify advocacy, public education and awareness to help eliminate the stigma and discrimination against persons with mental health challenges. It cites a stat from the World Health Organization that suicide is the second leading cause of death among young people, aged 15 to 29.

On World Mental Health Day 2018, India ought to bear this in mind and consider the very real threat mental illness poses to the nation.

Depression was the third leading cause of ill-health among adolescents, with suicide being the second leading cause of death among those aged 15 to 29 years, he said. It is only when we understand the problem better that we will be able to solve it.

The barrier of silence needs to be broken by discussing mental health more openly and encouraging young people to express their thoughts and opinions.

Storm Michael: 155mph winds leave trail of devastation
First responders and residents walk along a main street following Hurricane Michael in Mexico Beach, Fla ., on October 11, 2018. Her brother was able to tell a friend that his home was starting to get cracks in the walls and water was rushing in Wednesday.

"These, among others, represent some of the cases that the Mental Health Unit addresses on a daily basis", Mrs. Brandy-Williams said.

A new report will be published into the state of young people's mental health every year on World Mental Health Day, it said. "We can not expect to save lives if people who need help are being turned away from specialist care", they wrote in the Sydney Morning Herald on Monday. It's also possible for all staff to access the mental health support, not just those that are insured.

The study found that of those who said their mental health deteriorated due to financial worries, 28 percent had considered suicide.

The Deputy Prime Minister and Health Minister said that the mental health problem was not only a serious problem of the least developed and the developing countries but also of the whole of mankind, globally.

"We need to enable and support conversations about mental health at every level of our society".

She said: "In my time as Health Minister I have met many people who have been bereaved by suicide and their stories of pain and loss will stay with me for a long time". To observe World Mental Health Day, Peng gave a talk at a seminar hosted by John George Psychiatric Hospital in San Leandro, California, on Wednesday night for parents of teenagers.

Mental health services are available for free on the NHS, while there are a number of helplines and charities that offer support.
