Eichner used the moment to remind those watching that "the biggest election of our lifetime is happening" in November. "Get out and vote!".

"I'm so nervous, you guys", Cleopatra Bernard said as she took the stage to accept the award on her son's behalf.

Swift told iHeart Radio ahead of the release of Reputation that "I Did Something Bad" came to her in a dream, and that it includes paired-down pitch effects that create a unique tone at the chorus' end. She's up for additional three awards at the show, including Pop/Rock Female Artist and Artist of the Year.

The AMAs, airing live on ABC, started with Swift onstage singing "I Did Something Bad" from her Reputation album. "This award and every single award given out tonight were voted on by the people". She also condemned Republican senatorial candidate Marsha Blackburn for her voting record on women's rights and equal marriage. In her photo caption, she admitted that she has been "reluctant to publicly voice my political opinions, but due to several events in my life and in the world in the past two years, I feel very differently about that now". "Her voting record in Congress appalls and terrifies me", Swift captioned her Instagram post.
