A raging Southern California wildfire has triggered a mandatory evacuation order for the entire beachside city of Malibu.

- A wind-driven brush fire in Ventura County quadrupled overnight, scorching 8,000 acres by Friday morning and was zero percent contained, firefighters said.

"While a lot of my yard and neighbors' yards burned, the firefighters saved our homes", Janic tweeted just after 2 a.m. (5 a.m. ET) Friday.

About 12:30 a.m. Friday, all residents in Los Angeles and Ventura counties north of the Ventura (101) Freeway, south of Bell Canyon Road, west of Valley Circle Boulevard and east of Erbes Road, as well as north of Kanan Road, west of Lindero Canyon to Erbes Road extending north to Sunset Hills Boulevard, were told to evacuate, according to the Ventura County Fire Department. "We are still not out of the woods yet". "We have found a safe hotel ..."

Video showed some drivers still traveling on the freeway although fire trucks were blocking most of the lanes.

The "Hill Fire" was sparked Thursday in the Newbury Park Area, which is roughly one mile away from Wednesday's deadly mass shooting in Thousand Oaks.

Just 12 minutes after it started Thursday afternoon, the flames spread across USA 101, leaving several drivers temporarily stranded.

Residents took to social media to share their views of the flames almost consuming the hillside in Newbury Park, which borders Thousands Oaks to the west.

"Cal-Fire is working very hard to protect structures, my deputies and law enforcement officers have come in with to assist us with mutual aid the California Highway Patrol, law enforcement from all over NorCal are working to not only make sure the areas that are evacuated that we're getting people out, we've got around 400 requests to go out and check on people or attempt to contact people who haven't been able to check-in with their loved ones, so we're in the process of doing that", explained the sheriff.

Thousands of residents just outside Los Angeles have been ordered to evacuate immediately as a massive wildfire advances, fanned by strong winds.

While no homes or businesses have been lost because of the fast-moving fire, a number of RVs and outbuildings have been burned and a firefighter suffered a minor injury, authorities said.

Howling Santa Ana winds were driving the Woolsey and Hill fires.
