Brodie Van Wagenen's first official act as the New York Mets' new General Manager was to make some changes to the coaching staff.

NY went 77-85 in Callaway's first season as a general manager, and Callaway drew attention for game management.

Amaro has experience as a general manager in the Major League Baseball as he served the Philadelphia Phillies under that title in the early 2000's. Callaway insisted that was the matchup he wanted.

It's also worth noting that Van Wagenen noted that Tebow is on "a real mission to play in the big leagues next year", and that when asked if that meant he'd play in the big leagues in 2019, Van Wagenen did not rule it out.

"Having someone that is an experienced coach that can help him with in-game management we thought would be a win for Mickey and help him with his development, " Van Wagenen said. "You've got to identify who complements yourself". While he transitioned in recent years to the Boston Red Sox and Mets as first base coach - with hopes of becoming a manager - Amaro told The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal in September that he still has "a lot to offer" in the front office as well. Van Wagenen knows Amaro dating to his own days as a player at Stanford.

Additionally, the executive said that Lucasfilm will produce a second live action Star Wars series for Disney +. Both series will see the film actors return to reprise their roles.

"I think in my transition, he can be a valuable asset for me in the front office, " Van Wagenen said.

Pat Roessler was the club's assistant hitting coach from 2015-2017, before replacing Kevin Long as hitting coach in 2018. Bones will stay with the organization according to Puma, but the Mets will have a new bullpen coach. Van Wagenen did not specify if all three had made a decision to stay with the Mets long term. "They are certainly important to me and that's why they are out here this week".
