A pair of ex-Major League Baseball players died in a auto crash Thursday night in Venezuela.

Former major league players Luis Valbuena and Jose Castillo were killed in an automobile crash early Friday after playing in a winter league game in Venezuela, according to multiple reports.

"We are saddened by the tragic news that Luis Valbuena and former major leaguer Jose Castillo have died in a vehicle accident", Major League Baseball said in a tweet.

Valbuena played 11 seasons in the majors, beginning his career in 2008 with the Seattle Mariners. Valbuena hit just.218 and.219, respectively those first two years, but was better in a more full-time role in 2014. He recorded a.226 batting average with 114 home runs and 367 RBI during his career.

Oscars 2019: Kevin Hart quits as host amid tweets row
Hart is now set to host next year's Academy Awards, which is set to take place on February 24, 2019. "I've moved on", he said. Within hours, concerns were raised online that resurfaced a litany of (now-deleted) tweets.

With Kris Bryant soon to come up to the majors, the Cubs dealt Valbuena to the Astros in a deal that would bring Dexter Fowler to Chicago.

He started to struggle with his bat in Anaheim, hitting just.199 in 2017 and then again in 2018 before he was designated for assignment in August.

The club tweeted, "We are living a awful tragedy in Cardenales de Lara".

Valbuena, 33, recently played for the Los Angeles Angels, after spending some time as the Astros' third baseman in 2015, and had been a free agent since the end of the 2018 season.
