US State Department spokesperson Heather Nauert arrives for the release of the 2017 Annual Report on International Religious Freedom on May 29, 2018, in the Press Briefing Room at the US Department of State in Washington, DC.

He also said he would nominate Heather Nauert as us ambassador to the United Nations, saying the State Department spokeswoman, a relative novice on foreign policy, is "very talented, very smart, very quick". "Heather plays a key role in advancing US foreign policy & I look forward to her speedy confirmation".

In October, Haley announced that she was leaving the post by the end of the year.

Nauert did not bring with her the depth of foreign policy experience of some of her predecessors, many of whom were veteran Foreign Service officers who spent their careers immersed in the intricacies of diplomacy and foreign affairs.

Nauert has not been the first person from Fox News to be appointed in the Trump administration. She is a graduate of the Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism and Mount Vernon College in Washington. Since mid-October, she had rarely been seen by reporters at the State Department as Palladino took the lead. Nauert's performance as acting undersecretary of state was notable for its lack of accomplishments or even attention to the job.

"Pompeo's Brussels speech trashing the United Nations this week lowered our expectations for USA policy at the United Nations, whoever is ambassador", Gowan said.

Nauert had been the favourite after Haley, 46, announced that she would leave the job.

Nauert interviewed Trump often on "Fox & Friends" since the beginning of his campaign.

The officials CNN spoke to said the plans to possibly sail a warship into the Black Sea are in response to Russia's actions. According to CNN, the last USA ship to enter the Black Sea was the fast transport ship USNS Carson City in October.

If confirmed by the Senate, Nauert would assume the USA ambassador job at the end of the year. John Bolton, Trump's national security adviser, is another high-ranking White House official with ties to anti-Muslim hate groups.

There have been other missteps, including the time when she cited D-Day - the Allied invasion of Normandy against the Nazis - as an example of America's strong relationship with Germany.

On a day of other staff shakeups, the president also said he'll have an announcement of a major change in his top military brass on Saturday when he attends the annual Army-Navy football game in Philadelphia. However, she quickly learned key issues and how the United Nations operates.

"Ms. Nauert has stood by the State of Israel in her previous positions, and I have no doubt that the cooperation between our two countries will continue to strengthen", Israel's ambassador to the United Nations, Danny Danon, said in a statement. "So on that level, Nauert's pick is notable", he told Al Jazeera.

"With Pompeo more firmly in control and Bolton focused on his anti-multilateral agenda, there's a sense the U.S. ambassador will have less clout", Gowan said.

To take over the Cabinet role, Nauert will need to be confirmed by the Senate.

"I think that he will be confirmed readily by the Senate", Gingrich said.
