The message from YouTube to marketers was clear: these are the people you want to invest time to watch and whose videos you should run ads on.

These days, as YouTube becomes endlessly bigger and bigger it seems that people are more concerned with what is not in the Rewind than with what is.

Putting our criticisms aside for a moment, half way through the video the featured creators do highlight some important moments throughout 2018 that positively impacted our society.

Dawson spent the year nearly reinventing his channel releasing several-part mini-series', the most notable of which was the 8-part series on Logan Paul. Nope. We also had the phenomenon that was Jonny Jonny Yes Papa, Boxing Matches, and of course, the split between Liza Koshy and David Dobrik.

The Verge even criticized the YouTube Rewind 2018, saying that YouTube chose to spotlight certain stars and to ignore others in an effort to "appease advertisers".

It's that time of the year again. Now, it's worth noting that all of these people may have been approached by YouTube to be a part of YouTube Rewind - much like Philip DeFranco but turned it down.

Doctors amazed after man coughs up blood clot of lung bronchial tree
Along with blood and mucus, he brought up a his left bronchial tree - a series of tubes that distribute air to his lungs. Measuring six inched in length, the clot maps out a near-perfect map of the right bronchial system of the lung.

YouTube Rewind 2018 was pure hot garbage. (Seriously, is it "Yanny" or "Laurel"?) India comedy sensation Amit Bhadana amassed an astounding 11 million subscribers in just one year and Lâm Chấn Khang's two-hour musical comedy set in the criminal underworld amassed more than 60 million views.

The video also never addresses some of the major issues with the platform, we haven't forgotten about the Logan Paul fiasco and the fact that The Thinning 2 was eventually released. Though the trio has begun working on the big screen over the past year so perhaps that's why?

YouTube's 2018 list of the top 10 trending videos on the platform reflect that shifting use-case. This year's list skewed toward professional creators, with one YouTube original mixed in. Smith joining the platform probably the only real moment from 2018 worth talking about... The decision is an especially strong stance, considering Kjellberg is the No. 1 YouTuber, with more than 74.8 million subscribers.

However, the platform is under fire for a yearly overview that many say doesn't represent the large portion of content and engagement on YouTube.

Aaron Brindle, a YouTube Trends expert, said the list was created based on viewer engagement, not just the number of views a video has.
