Inter captain Mauro Icardi insisted he will only sign a new contract once the Serie A club "submit a correct and concrete offer" amid uncertainty over his future in Milan.

The Nerazzurri management are hoping to get things ironed out in no more than three meetings.

Icardi's contract still runs to 2021, but the forward has been linked with moves to Real Madrid and Manchester United in recent months.

The current status of negotiations is certainly complex.

The Argentina international's agent and wife, Wanda Nara, has revealed that two of the biggest clubs in Spain are interested in him.

In 22 games across all competitions this season, the 25-year-old hitman has scored 13 goals and also tallied two assists.

"Right now, Icardi's renewal with Inter is very far away", she told Diario AS (via Football Espana).

But the hosts were unable to forge a position of dominance, struggling to 135 for five at the close, an overall lead of 212. Muhammad Abbas and Imam Ul Haq received four reprieves from the South African slip cordon who were poor with their hands.

For his part, Inter's sporting director, the former Juventus executive Guiseppe Marotta, is optimistic about reaching an agreement with the player, and is set to commence talks in person next week, after a tempestuous festive period of public outbusts and leaks from the player's camp.

"I won't deny that we can reach an agreement, but right now we're very far apart".

"It's not logical for Mauro to renew on the same salary that he receives now".

"We believe Mauro is worth more than that".

"Icardi is our captain and we'll talk about his contract, but there aren't any problems between us and we won't be influenced by what the newspapers say".

Gazzetta dello Sport then reported on Thursday that Icardi could change his agent, something the Argentine did not take kindly to. "For this reason, it'll always be Wanda Icardi who takes care of my and our interests until the end of my career".
